Gandhi Jayanti at Li’l Miracles International Preschool

As parents and educators, we believe it is important to simplify Gandhiji’s life lessons into relatable activities and conversations that preschoolers can understand. Through fun activities, storytelling, and experiential learning, we guide children to absorb values that will stay with them throughout life.

Key life skills we focus while celebrating Gandhi Jayanti

The Life Skill of Truth – Speaking Honestly from the Heart

Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of Satya (truth) is one of the greatest gifts to humanity. For young children, truth can be taught as the simple act of always speaking honestly—whether it is about finishing their homework, admitting a mistake, or telling parents what really happened at school.

At Li’l Miracles International Preschool, we encourage truthfulness through everyday classroom interactions. Children learn that being honest builds trust, makes friendships stronger, and gives them a sense of pride. Storytelling sessions about Gandhi’s childhood, such as the story of “Gandhiji and the Stolen Gold,” help little ones understand that telling the truth, even in difficult situations, is always the right choice.

The Life Skill of Non-Violence – Using Kindness in Words and Actions

Ahimsa, or non-violence, is often misunderstood as simply “not fighting.” But for our preschoolers, it becomes a deeper lesson: using kind words, gentle actions, and respect for everyone around them.

On Gandhi Jayanti, children participate in role-play activities where they practice resolving conflicts with words instead of arguments. They learn to say “I didn’t like that, can we play differently?” instead of pushing or shouting. By modeling and guiding this behavior, we help children develop emotional control, empathy, and the ability to solve problems peacefully.

These small practices at such a young age lay the foundation for lifelong positive relationships.

The Life Skill of Simplicity – Finding Joy in Little Things

Gandhiji lived a life of simplicity, showing the world that true happiness does not come from possessions but from contentment and gratitude. For children growing up in today’s fast-paced, material-driven world, simplicity is an important value.

In our classrooms, we connect this principle to daily life. Children learn to appreciate simple joys like playing together, sharing toys, watering plants, or enjoying healthy homemade snacks. During Gandhi Jayanti week, we organize “Simple Living Day,” where children dress in plain white clothes and engage in minimalistic activities such as making clay toys, singing together, and enjoying traditional games. This helps them discover that happiness can come from the simplest of experiences.

The Life Skill of Hard Work – Respecting Effort and Discipline

One of Gandhiji’s strongest values was the dignity of labour. He believed no work was too small and that self-reliance was the true path to growth. At Li’l Miracles International Preschool, we translate this lesson into activities that teach children to take pride in doing small tasks independently.

Whether it is tidying up after playtime, watering plants in the school garden, or helping teachers set up the classroom, our little ones learn that effort is valuable. During Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, we encourage children to participate in “Cleanliness Drives” where they pick up small paper bits and keep their classrooms neat. This instills a sense of ownership, discipline, and respect for hard work.

The Life Skill of Respect – Learning from Everyone Around Us

Mahatma Gandhi respected all people equally, regardless of their background, religion, or status. Teaching respect to preschoolers means showing them how to greet elders politely, listen when someone is speaking, and appreciate diversity.

At our school, children celebrate Gandhi Jayanti by singing songs of unity and respect. Teachers guide them to understand that every person—whether a teacher, classmate, parent, or helper—deserves love and courtesy. Respect also extends to respecting nature, animals, and shared spaces, which we highlight through fun nature walks and eco-friendly craft activities.

The Life Skill of Self-Discipline – Building Good Habits Every Day

Discipline was the backbone of Gandhiji’s life. For children, self-discipline begins with small habits: waking up on time, brushing teeth, saying “thank you,” waiting patiently for their turn, and following classroom routines.

Through games, songs, and daily practice, we gently introduce the idea that discipline does not mean strictness but rather the ability to do the right thing consistently. Gandhi Jayanti serves as the perfect reminder for children to practice little acts of discipline that add up to big life changes.

Celebrating Gandhi Jayanti with Purpose at Li’l Miracles International Preschool

At Li’l Miracles International Preschool, celebrations are not just about decorations, songs, or special assemblies—they are carefully designed experiences where learning and joy go hand in hand. Gandhi Jayanti is one such celebration where every activity has a deeper purpose. For our children, it becomes an opportunity to step into Gandhiji’s shoes in small, age-appropriate ways and to carry forward the values that shaped an entire nation.

On this day, our classrooms transform into spaces of discovery. Teachers narrate simple stories from Gandhiji’s childhood, such as how he admitted to his father about a mistake with honesty, or how he chose truth over fear. These stories capture children’s imagination and open conversations about honesty, courage, and responsibility. Through puppet shows, picture books, and role plays, values that may seem abstract become real and understandable for preschool minds.

We also engage children in meaningful hands-on activities. Little ones participate in cleanliness drives within their classrooms and play areas, learning that keeping their surroundings neat is not just a rule but a way of showing respect for the environment. Craft activities like making spinning wheels (charkhas) or peace pigeons introduce symbols connected to Gandhiji, while also developing fine motor skills and creativity. Children dress in simple white clothes to symbolize purity and unity, making the day visually impactful and memorable.

Music and movement add life to the celebration. Children sing songs of peace and unity, clap along, and sometimes even walk in small “peace marches” around the school with handmade banners carrying messages like “Be Kind,” “Speak Truth,” and “Love All.” These activities give them the joy of participation while embedding Gandhiji’s teachings in their young hearts.

But the true purpose of Gandhi Jayanti at Li’l Miracles International lies beyond one day. We use this celebration as a springboard for life-long lessons. Teachers encourage children to practice truthfulness in everyday classroom situations, resolve small conflicts peacefully, show gratitude for simple joys, and respect every individual around them. Parents are invited to join in and continue these habits at home, ensuring the values are not just school activities but part of daily family life.

By celebrating Gandhi Jayanti with intention and heart, we plant seeds of empathy, honesty, kindness, and discipline in our children. These seeds, when nurtured over the years, blossom into life skills that prepare them to be not only academically capable but also emotionally intelligent, compassionate, and socially responsible individuals. In this way, Gandhi Jayanti at Li’l Miracles International is not just a tribute to the Father of the Nation but also a meaningful step toward raising the guardians of tomorrow.
